**The JH Girls basketball tournament in Kimball tomorrow has been postponed to February 3rd.**

**We will not be attending the JH Boys tournament in Wagner due to extreme wind-chill temperatures.**


Band students will be doing a fundraiser from January 16th through January 31st! They will be selling "Driven Coffee, Tea and Popcorn/trail Mix"!  Click here to check out the items for sale. 
The fundraiser is going toward new band uniforms/equipment and towards upcoming Band trips!  Please see any 5th-12th grade band student for your coffee needs! 


CTE (Career & Technical Education) Program Survey

Attention high school students and parents – please take a minute and complete the below survey regarding our CTE programs. The state is completing its regularly scheduled assessment to ensure CTE programs continue having a solid strategic plan for CTE in their area that benefits both students and industry.

Little Hawks Girls Basketball Camp

📣Little Hawks Cheer Camp
The SCW Cheerleaders will be putting on a camp for PK4-6th grade students on Saturday, February 10th. They will also get the chance to cheer at the boys and girls home basketball game on February 13th. Click here for more information. Registration forms will be sent home with students. 


Devoted Students

The next two Devoted Students events are planned for January 22nd and February 26th @ 6:00 p.m.  Any 7th -12th grade students are invited to attend. We will meet in Mrs. Rodriguez’s room with supper and a study provided. Please RSVP by letting either of us know, or by sending us a quick message, so we can plan an appropriate amount of food. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you there! 🙂

Substitute Teachers
The Woonsocket School District is looking for individuals who are interested in being substitute teachers in the elementary and/or high school.  Individuals who are interested need, at minimum, a high school diploma.  Substitute Teacher Pay: Non-certified - $100.00/day, Certified - $120.00/day, Long term (after 5 consecutive days) $130.00/dayPlease contact the school at 796-4431.

Free, online tutoring available for K-12 students
South Dakota students and families can access a new, online tutoring program, staffed by college students who are preparing to become teachers. The Dakota Dreams Online Tutoring Program offers FREE online tutoring to K-12 students across the state. One-on-one tutoring sessions can help students with their homework, tackle specific trouble areas, and address broader educational concepts.

Central Electric Cooperative proudly engages in youth educational initiatives to help develop future leaders. In 2024, the cooperative will continue to support area youth through the National Rural Electric Association (NRECA) Youth Tour and our annual scholarship program. 
Washington, D.C. Youth Tour for H.S. Juniors
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and Central Electric invite high school juniors to apply for this educational trip to Washington, D.C.
The educational journey takes place June 15-22, 2024, and travel expenses are paid by participating cooperatives. Attendees will learn about government, cooperative philosophy and rural electrification in our nation's capital.
Applicants must be high school juniors during the 2023-2024 school year who permanently reside in Aurora, Brule, Buffalo, Davison, Hanson, Jerauld, Miner or Sanborn County of South Dakota. They do not need to be cooperative members to apply. Children and dependents of cooperative directors and employees are not eligible to participate.
 
Central Electric can send one student per county. Outstanding juniors chosen as Youth Tour delegates must obtain signed parental consent to attend. The application includes the following short-answer question: What moment in American history do you wish you had been a part of, and how would you have contributed?
Interested students should visit www.centralec.coop/youth-tour  to learn more. Applications are accepted until Feb. 1.
Scholarship Opportunities for H.S. Seniors
Central Electric is offering the following scholarships to children and legal dependents of cooperative members:
  • $1,000 Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship (Must be the legal dependent of a member with primary residence served by Central Electric Cooperative) 
  • $1,000 Jay Headley Memorial Scholarship (Must be the legal dependent of a member with primary residence served by Central Electric Cooperative and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an agriculture-related field)
Interested students can access scholarship applications and eligibility details online at www.centralec.coop/scholarships. Applications are accepted until Feb. 1.
