Sanborn Central Community,
We have decided to move our Sept. 30th JH/JV game and our Oct. 4th varsity game to Wessington Springs. Field conditions on the south end are not satisfactory to hold a game at this point, and our target date of the October 11th varsity game is still our goal. This is not the news we wished to share with our community. Our school events at Sanborn Central are very important to the community and students. We aim to continue to make progress on our field and holding football games at Sanborn Central is a priority.
-- Superintendent Corey Flatten & Board President Mark Goral

Build Dakota Scholarships
The Build Dakota Roadshow will be at Woonsocket High School on Wednesday, September 25th at 8:30am to give a presentation to interested high school students and community members. Build Dakota is a full-ride scholarship for students attending technical colleges in high needs fields in South Dakota. Students partner with businesses across the state and agree to work for their partner company for at least 3 years after they graduate.

This presentation is for students of all ages, and even students who are not currently on a “technical college” path- our topics apply to ALL students. Businesses are also encouraged to come to student presentations to give them the opportunity to connect and put the word out about job-shadowing and part-time work for your students' exploring careers. Build Dakota is celebrating their 10th anniversary and they've seen communities who are working together (high schools, local business and economic development) really making a BIG impact on their local workforce and lives of their Build Dakota participants.

Talking points for students:
  • What is Build Dakota?
  • What is the “skills gap”?
  • Why is career exploration important for them NOW?
  • What is the workforce shortage and how can they use it to their advantage?
  • Application tips
  • Exploring college options- technical colleges AND 4-year universities- they have to find the right fit for them.
  • Industry partnerships- businesses all over the state are stepping up to help pay for college!
  • FAFSA- reconsidering student loans
  • Technical College myths
  • We also have fun swag to “encourage” discussion.

Talking points for business:

  • How they can use Build Dakota funds for recruitment and retention
  • Rethinking training vs advertising
  • The importance of working with local high schools for student career exploration.
  • Why job shadowing and internships are important for their business to grow.
